7 advantages of working in the office during summer

Since the beginning of the summer, you've been watching your colleagues leave one after the other for destinations that make you dream. But what about you? You still go to the office every day. Taking public transport as usual. Eating the same food every day at lunchtime, either at your desk or in your workplace canteen. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself and envying your colleagues, look at the benefits. Because yes, there are!

1. Enjoy the peace and quiet

During the summer months, people are more relaxed and available than at other times of the year. Take advantage of this to invite a client to lunch or to contact a prospect again. And why not also get to know colleagues who work in other departments?
In addition, enjoy the calmness of the open space. Sure, a more dynamic atmosphere can be electrifying, but isn't it nice to be able to hear yourself think?

2. Fewer demands for better productivity

The premises have emptied, the clients are away, the phone rings less often and there are far fewer meetings than during the year.
In fact, according to a study by Gloria Mark, an employee in an open space is interrupted on average every 11 minutes. In summer, you can concentrate more on your tasks without being interrupted. Make the most of it!

3. A more pleasant commute

If you live in a large city, public transport is less crowded than usual and traffic on the road is much lighter. This also means less travel time if you are in a car, and therefore more time in the morning before you leave. You are also home earlier in the evening to rest, take care of your family, go out with friends, etc.

4. Get ahead of your work

Try to take the opportunity to anticipate the back-to-school rush and the upcoming projects that will require a lot of your time and energy. Also, take the time to review your organisation to be more efficient, including setting up task boards and backlogs. When your colleagues return from holiday and need to get a boost, you will be much less stressed.

5. Fill in the gaps

Summer is a great time to catch up. Whether it's a software gap or a project you're struggling with, you'll have days or even weeks to catch up.
It's also a time to learn new things, whether it's improving your English, learning to code, or learning new skills useful for your core business.

6. Get your affairs in order

Another benefit of working in the summer is that you can take advantage of the quiet to put your affairs in order. Whether you are teleworking or working in person, you probably have a lot of files to sort through, unnecessary documents to throw away/delete and housekeeping to do, whether it's on your desk, your computer or in your locker.
Isn't it nice to work in a clean environment, free of all those files that have been piled up for months? You can also take the opportunity to decorate it, for example by adding photos or a green plant.

7. Take stock of your career

Why not take advantage of the summer to take stock of your professional life? How do you see your job developing? What have you learned and what skills do you need to acquire to achieve your goals? What are your desires and expectations? Ask yourself the right questions.

Perhaps these reflections will confirm your desire to discover a new company, new working methods and a new environment... If this is the case, now is the time to update your CV, carry out a salary benchmark of your function to better understand where you stand on the job market, and finally, apply for other positions!
